Countdown to Christmas

16th January 2019

With less than a week to go, the countdown is on….

Trips to A&E soar over the festive season as people rush around, trying to get everything done and the it is this extra speed and chaos that can lead to accidents and injuries:

  • Electric shocks from badly wired fairy lights
  • Falling off ladders whilst getting decorations out of the loft or hanging up the outside lights
  • Fires caused by candles left unattended

Stay safe this Christmas by slowing down, remembering to take care and pay attention to the little things:

  • Check fairy lights and cables before switching them on
  • Never water the Christmas tree whilst the lights are switched on
  • Never leave a burning candle unattended and beware of decorations near the flames
  • Make sure that any lights used outside are intended for external use and keep plugs and transformers indoors
  • Don’t overload electrical sockets
  • Use a step-ladder when hanging decorations rather than a chair or stool
  • Avoid placing cards and decorations on a mantlepiece or shelf above a fireplace
  • Turn off all lights before leaving the house or going to bed
